An Even More Bizarre Nancy Drew PC Anomaly

I have another strange Nancy Drew picture cover that I have had for around a year. It has a bizarre combination that I have never seen before. The book is an early picture cover of The Ringmaster's Secret that lists to Fire Dragon on the back cover. Therefore, it should list to #39 or 40 inside the book, right? Those are the choices we have for early picture cover books. This one lists to #42 Pine Hill inside the book.

The back cover list matches the 1962A-22 (1st PC) and 1963A-23 (2nd PC) printing according to Farah's 12th edition. The interior list matches the 1965B-26 printing. I have never had an early picture cover book that is that far off on what the back cover and inside lists have. Does anyone have one like this?

Unless I am mistaken... I have noticed EVERY buyer paying for insurance.

$$$
Regarding insurance- Ebay is automatically adding insurance to every auction despite my specifications to the contrary which is QUITE unfair to the buyer.

I am telling customers that If you would like insurance, contact me before paying.

Please note: on high ticket items, I think it is great for peace of mind. Otherwise I have NEVER lost a package.

They do not misss a trick!!!

I just spent an hour and a half trying to straighten this out!

I know the name of the game is CYA but delivery confirmation will back you up and unless something is fragile. It is a waste of money!

I am just outraged. Does anyone know what is going on, besides the greed momngers.

Also THAT MAKES A SHAM OF LOW SHIPPING PRICES. MORE MONEY FOR GREED BAY.

Jennifer,

I was searching your blog for some other information, and came across this post which reminded me of a book I have. It's "Nancy's Mysterious Letter", an original text PC, which lists to Fire Dragon on the back. The odd thing is that it lists to Clue of the Velvet Mask and Dana Girls Jade Ring inside, both first published in 1953. Quite a difference! Is this a normal 1st (or later) PC printing of this book according to Farah's? Or do I have my own bizarre anomaly? This is why I am intrigued by collecting ND books! Thanks!

The 1950s and early 1960s printing history of Mysterious Letter is really odd - there are lots of mistakes and anomalies. All copies of Mysterious Letter printed from 1953 through 1962 have the same list of titles inside the book: Nancy Drew #1-30 and Dana Girls #1-15. I do not believe this occurred with any other Nancy Drew books.

The last two printings with that list of titles inside the book are the first two picture cover printings. The first picture cover printing lists to Fire Dragon on the back cover, so you do have the first picture cover.

During the 1950s, several printings of Mysterious Letter have "The" in front of the title on the front cover, which is obviously an error. Some sellers like to say this error is RARE because it was caught quickly, but the error is an anomaly that occurs in five printings from 1952 through 1957, so it was NOT caught quickly. Then there is also the oddity of the many hole-punched dust jackets from 1950 that list to Wooden Lady that have inexplicably shown up on mid-1950s books which of course have the odd list of titles, ND #1-30 and DG #1-15 inside the book. Something went really wacky with Mysterious Letter for around 10 years.

Hi Jennifer,

I was searching your blog (which is great, by the way) and came across this post. I have an original text PC of The Quest of the Missing Map that lists to Fire Dragon on the back and Velvet Mask/Jade Ring inside. You mentioned that this had happened with Mysterious Letter--do you think my copy of Missing Map is another such anomaly?

That book is documented in Farah's Guide as the first picture cover printing of Missing Map. It probably has something to do with the incorrect list that was repeatedly used on Mysterious Letter. This is the type of thing that makes collecting fun.

Thanks for your reply, Jennifer! I've really been enjoying collecting Nancy Drew PCs for the past couple of years, and I love finding things like this.
