Forkle's Pared-Down Identities
Here is what I wrote around the time that I wrote my post about Eleanor. I held off publishing it, because I didn't know whether my idea had enough merit to share it with anyone else.
We learn that Eleanor calls Keefe "the boy who disappeared," which is odd since Sophie calls Alvar "the boy who disappeared." I examined the parallels between the two situations.
I believe that Kenric faked his death, that he is Forkle, and that one of his identities is Ethan. I also believe Kenric is Sophie's father. Also, keep in mind that if Kenric is Forkle, then Kenric was a pair of twins. Assuming that all of this true, then here are the parallels between Keefe and Alvar.
Alvar – the boy who disappeared from Sophie's point of view
Alvar thought Sophie was a human because of her eye color (brown).
Sophie's father is Kenric.
Kenric faked his death.
Keefe – the boy who disappeared from Eleanor's point of view
Keefe thinks Eleanor is a human because of her eye color (green).
Eleanor’s father is Ethan.
Ethan faked his death.
Sophie, who thought she was human, saw "the boy who disappeared." Sophie later learned that she was an elf, and "the boy who disappeared" was another elf.
Eleanor, who thought she was human, saw "the boy who disappeared." The "boy who disappeared" was an elf.
Does this mean that we can conclude that Eleanor is an elf? I don't know, but the parallels are peculiar.
Keefe, Eleanor, and Sophie are very close in age. Keefe delivered the letter when he was 11. Sophie was 10 1/2. Eleanor was 10. That is one of the reasons I wonder about Eleanor. We know that Keefe and Sophie both have special significance to the two rebel movements. Does Eleanor have some special significance?
On May 29, I had a breakthrough. I answered a comment on my Ethan Benedict Wright post. I finally mentioned something that I had been thinking.
Regarding Eleanor, I agree that she is of special significance. I've been kicking around an idea about her that is very similar to what you're thinking.
I made note of ages the last time I read through the books. At the time that Keefe delivered messages to Ethan, he was 11. During that same time, Sophie was 10 1/2, and Eleanor was 10. Of particular importance, Sophie and Eleanor are very close in age. I find this interesting.
I have several ideas, and it hinges upon whether Eleanor is truly human or is an elf but unaware. She could be like Sophie in that she was placed with humans and is unaware that she is an elf. I've wondered if Eleanor could also be part of Project Moonlark, perhaps as a backup.
Let's revisit the anagrams. I have tried hard to find anagrams in many of the character names in this series. I have only found three names where the full name (first, middle, last) can be rearranged to form a meaningful relevant plot reference by using all letters in the name exactly once.
People try to discredit the significance of the anagrams. Take your own full name. Try to rearrange all letters to form an anagram that uses all letters exactly once and makes a relevant phrase. I bet most of you can't. I tried with my name, and I couldn't do it. I'm sure some people can through happenstance, but that would be like winning the lottery. It isn't going to happen often unless a name was designed to be an anagram.
So, I have found three full names in the series that form perfect anagrams. Shannon must have designed these names to be perfect anagrams.
1. Kenric Elgar Fathdon is "Forkle grin and teach."
2. Ethan Benedict Wright II is "grin teach tweed inhibit."
3. Eleanor Olivia Wright is "love Oralie with a grin."
As I've mentioned before, I believe that the anagram from Kenric's name proves that he is Forkle.
I believe that Ethan is Forkle/Kenric. The "grin" and "teach" from his anagram indicate that. Ethan's physical description also points to Kenric (see post).
Now, Eleanor. "Love Oralie with a grin" is such a specific anagram, and I believe it's key to Eleanor's origin.
I've been trying to figure out whether Eleanor is a human or an elf. I've been assuming that she's a human due to lack of any reason to believe otherwise.
I now think it possible that Eleanor is an elf and that she is also Kenric's daughter.
I thought about the eye color. Sophie has the wrong eye color for elves. In Sophie's case, her eyes are brown instead of blue. Eleanor also has the wrong eye color for elves. Eleanor's eyes are green. That's another parallel between the two girls, and it's intriguing.
The anagram "love Oralie with a grin" tells me that Oralie could be Eleanor's mother. My first thought was that Eleanor is part of Project Moonlark. She could be the backup to Sophie, like Plan B if Plan A didn't work out right.
Think about it. If something had gone wrong with Sophie (which it nearly did more than once), then the Black Swan wouldn't have had a moonlark. The Black Swan very well could have had a backup plan in place.
This would mean that both Sophie and Eleanor's parents are Kenric and Oralie. That would make them full siblings. But also, it's possible that each twin could have been the father to one of the girls, which would make them cousins. Even if cousins, Sophie and Eleanor would be genetic full siblings with a shared mother and identical twin fathers.
It's interesting that Eleanor has red hair like Kenric and Sophie has blonde hair like Oralie. What if both girls could have been the Moonlark and they went with the one who didn't have red hair?
Even if this is true, then who gave birth to Eleanor? I assume that a surrogate would have been involved. That was the case with Sophie, but in Sophie's case, the Fosters thought Sophie was their real daughter. A human could have been hired as the surrogate for Eleanor.
This sounds plausible, but a big problem with Eleanor is her age. If Eleanor is an elf, then she should have manifested by now.
In Book 7 on page 211, Magnate Leto transmits this to Sophie: Most elves manifest before they turn fifteen, so you're outside of that window. While unlikely, it is possible that Eleanor hasn't manifested yet.
In Book 8 on page 335, Mr. Forkle explains that Sophie was designed so that her abilities could be switched off. Consider that Mr. Forkle triggered all of Sophie's abilities except for teleporting. Could Eleanor be the same way? Has Mr. Forkle just not triggered her abilities?
Eleanor's lack of a known ability does not eliminate the possibility of her being an elf. I don't know whether Eleanor is human or an elf, but I'm open to the idea that she could be an elf. It's an interesting thought, and it's certainly plausible.
One more thing:
In Book 9 on page 181, we learn that Oralie knows about Ethan and his daughter. She has their names on her mind map. This puzzles me. How does Oralie know about them? I assume Mr. Forkle told her. I don't know how else she would know. But then, why would Mr. Forkle tell her about them? This is another strange loose end that could indicate that Eleanor is possibly part of Project Moonlark.
